The assignment came from Bayer Pharmaceuticals, booked through Ovation Netherlands DMC — an event agency that coordinated the full program. Bayer was hosting an internal leadership event: an afternoon and evening for their senior management team, roughly 120 people. My role was to photograph the entire event — from the formal presentations and award ceremonies through to the gala dinner and party afterwards. The goal was to deliver a complete visual record of the day that Bayer could use for internal communications.
The event took place at an indoor venue. I worked for roughly four hours, moving through different phases of the program — keynote presentations on stage, candid networking moments, the seated dinner, and the party. Lighting changed constantly: dramatic stage lighting during presentations, warm ambient light at dinner, coloured party lighting later in the evening. One memorable moment was the large group photo on the outdoor steps. With 120 people and no elevated platform available, I had to improvise — I grabbed a ladder that happened to be nearby, climbed up to get the overhead angle, and made it work. That kind of quick thinking is part of the job at events like this.
Bayer requested approximately fifty images. I delivered a curated selection covering every key moment of the event — the stage presentations, the group photo, candid interactions, dinner details, and the party atmosphere. The turnaround was roughly two to three weeks, which included careful editing to handle the challenging mixed-lighting conditions throughout the venue. The images were delivered for Bayer's internal use across their communications channels.
