3Devo makes machines that turn recycled plastics into 3D printing filament. Clever technology, real impact — but the world it lives in can feel dense, technical, and grey. When 3Devo came to me to launch the Filament Maker 2 — the newest version of their flagship product — they wanted something completely different. Something that would pull them out of that world and present the machine from a fresh angle. The director had seen a film I'd made for another client. Something playful, unexpected, and full of energy. He wanted that same feeling for 3Devo.
The concept I brought to the table was a fairytale. A deep, wise narrator guides you through the story of the machine — its purpose, its craft, its place in the world of making. The voiceover was written together with the client, and gave the film a tone that felt genuinely different: warm, imaginative, a little mythic. The visuals matched. We shot entirely at 3Devo's Utrecht facility — their workshop, assembly department, and laboratory — lit with bold, saturated colour. Purples, blues, pinks. Rooms that usually see fluorescent tubes, transformed into something cinematic.
The film launched on LinkedIn and played on a large video wall at 3Devo's stand at Formnext 2025 in Frankfurt — the biggest additive manufacturing trade show in the world. A fairytale, told on a global stage.
